Vernon Edward Klein, the only son of George and Mary Klein, was born on November 28, 1922 in Baltimore, MD. After his High School graduation, he took a job with the B&O Railroad. He left that job to enlist in the Army Air Corps, where he trained other pilots while in Oklahoma and Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a lieutenant and returned to his job with the railroad. In 1947, he married Mildred “Mike” Michael. Shortly afterwards, he took a job with the Aid Association for Lutherans and made the President’s Club every year until his retirement in 1987.
Vernon was a man of deep faith and as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church served as the president of the congregation, an elder, and sang baritone in the church choir. He enjoyed traveling, a good game of pinochle or pool, fishing and church social events, where his generous spirit and full-throated laugh would light up any room.
Vernon is survived by his devoted wife of seventy-four years, Mildred Klein. He will be greatly missed by his five nieces and the many friends and family who loved him.
