Velia Josephine Saverino
March 2, 1937 ~ February 9, 2024 (age 86) 86 Years Old
On February 9, 2024, Velia Josephine Saverino (nee Fiorucci), 86, passed away. She was the daughter of the late Oliver Fiorucci & Maddalena Fiorucci (nee Benedetti) & the loving wife to the late Joseph Saverino. Devoted mother to Beth & Michael (Lisa); caring sister to Elisa China (the late Primo). She was the cherished grandmother to Evan, AJ, Emma & Matthew.
Velia, known by Val to most her friends, attended St. Joseph Monastery School, the Institute of Notre Dame (IND), and Maryland Institute College of Art. The majority of Velia's professional career was with the Social Security Administration but prior to that she greatly enjoyed working at Andrews Air Force Base. Velia was an accomplished professional balancing career and family at a time when it was not the norm. Velia treasured growing up in vibrant St. Joseph Monastery Parish and playing basketball for IND. As well being an athlete, Velia was an artist. She pursued these passions for most of her life and was proud of working out at the Catonsville YMCA up until last month.
Velia's greatest devotion was to her family, which was always her top priority. Velia and Joe met in the 6th grade at St. Joseph Monastery but didn't begin dating until after high school and were married for 43 years. She was greatly loved by her immediate and extended family. Everyone whom Velia met was quickly enamored by her beautiful smile and then felt her warmth and kindness. She will be greatly missed by many.
