On July 2, 2020, Maureen V. Canion, 81, of Columbia, MD passed away.  She is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Dr. Seth B. Canion, who passed in 2015.

She is survived by her children: Lisa Sneeringer Gambino (husband, Louis); Denise Sneeringer Chartier (husband, John); Michael Sneeringer Jr. (wife, Holly); Alison Sneeringer Church (husband, Eric); and, stepdaughter, Staci Canion Lebischak (husband, Mike).  She was “Mimom” to 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.  Maureen was the eldest child of William J. and Dorothea V. Mahoney (both deceased), of Catonsville, and is survived by her seven brothers and sisters: John Dennis Mahoney (wife, Janice); Brian Mahoney (wife, Audrey); Terence Mahoney; Kevin Mahoney (wife, Ernestine, deceased); Bill Mahoney (wife, Gina); Sheila Mahoney Geiser (husband, Louis); and, Eileen Mahoney Weber (husband, Peter).  She is also survived by many Mahoney and McCabe cousins in Pittsburgh, PA.

Known lovingly by her lifelong nickname, “Mo”, she was born June 10, 1939 in Youngstown, OH.  Upon the family’s 1947 move to Baltimore she attended St. Mark Catholic School and the Institute of Notre Dame.  After her children were in school she obtained a BS degree from the University of Maryland and an MBA at the University of Baltimore.  She was a Staff Dental Hygienist at The John F. Kennedy Institute (now Kennedy Krieger), where she worked alongside her husband, Dr. Seth Canion, DDS, treating children and adolescents with developmental disabilities.  In later years she worked at St. Joseph Hospital, Memphis, TN, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of TN, and the University Hospital of Cleveland.

She will be remembered for her dedication to the children at Kennedy Krieger Institute, her fierce loyalty to her family, and her willingness to always help others.
