Mary Lowe Obituary

Mary Dee (Brashear) Lowe -- A remarkably gentle woman.

In the late afternoon of Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Mary Dee Lowe was called home to be with God.  She is greatly loved, and immeasurably missed by everyone who ever knew her. She always had the sweetest, most gentle interactions with everyone she met, and people of all walks of life enjoyed being in Dee’s company because of the wonderful way she treated each and every person she encountered throughout her life.  In addition to being very happily married to the love of her life; Bryan Thomas Lowe for more than 64 years until his passing in September, 2008, Mary Dee (or just “Dee” as all of her friends would call her) has many offspring to carry on her legacy of kindness, gentleness and friendliness. Mary Dee is the most beloved Mother of three children; Viki Roberts, Bryan Lowe Jr., and Jennifer Topolski.  Dee is also the fantastic Grandmother of eight grandchildren; Joe, Chad, Heather, Bryan III, Jessica, Bryan Gilbert, Jenna, and Justin, and incredibly Dee was especially blessed to live her life long enough to experience being the Great Grandmother of seven great grandchildren; Jaselle, Mirza, Brody, Kyson, Alexis, Xavier and Lucas.

Mary Dee was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the parents of Walter and Mary Dee Brashear. Although she didn’t know it at the time, her future husband (Bryan Lowe) had been born just 20 months earlier, living only a few blocks from her parent’s home. Seventeen years later, Mary Dee Brashear and Bryan T. Lowe were married on June 3, 1944 (Bryan was 18 and Mary Dee was just 17). Dee and Bryan had a “unique” honeymoon that included having to bring along Bryan’s Grandmother in the car since she owned a car and Bryan and Dee did not. “Granny” needed to go to Louisville so that’s where Bryan and Dee decided to spend their 3-day honeymoon. It was an intentionally short event because three days after getting married, Bryan was shipped off to the European Campaign for World War II to fight the Germans for more than 12 months in the Italian Alps.  Mary Dee didn’t see her husband for two long years because of WWII.  Once they were reunited in September 1946, Bryan went to college and Mary Dee prepared to become a Mother for the first time.  Mary Dee’s first child, Viki Lynn Lowe came into the world on August 12, 1948.  Bryan decided to make the Army a career, but this time as an officer, and he and Mary Dee spent the next 22 years travelling around the world wherever the Army decided they needed his skills as a Hospital Administrator.

On October 9, 1952 their second child and only Son (Bryan T. Lowe Jr.) was born.  Seven years later their last child, Jennifer Dee Lowe was born on August 7, 1959.

Although Mary Dee never really worked outside the home throughout her 64 years of blissful marriage to Bryan, she kept very busy raising their three children and taking care of their home in the absolute best ways possible.  Mary Dee dearly loved babies and children of all ages, and therefore not only did her children greatly benefit from that, her 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren benefitted! Dee was always the kind of person that everyone felt comfortable being around. She enjoyed meeting new people, and her 22 years of life as the wife of a career Army Officer gave her plenty of opportunities to meet people from around the world and to have a very positive impact on those people each and every time.

She will long be remembered as a wonderful, loving and caring wife to her husband of 64 years, and a fantastic Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother to all of her children and their offspring. God created Mary Dee (Brashear) Lowe to be the loving, sweet and gentle woman that she was for almost 91 years, and now God has called her home to continue being that same wonderful woman there in Heaven.
