Elsie “Elsa” Szczybor Obituary

Elsa was born in Baltimore to George and Elsie (Hopkins) Lang.  Her older brother, Sumner and two younger sisters, Doris and Nellie preceded her in death.

She graduated from Western High School and worked for Sun Life Insurance Company where she met Marion Szczybor at a company meeting in New York City.  Marion and Elsa were married on May 5, 1956, and had three sons, Mark, Paul and Eric.  They have four grandchildren, Colleen, Catherine, James and Joe.

Marion and Elsa loved to travel and managed to take 18 cruises throughout the years.  Elsa was always willing to volunteer at church and neighborhood functions and was famous for her baking, especially cakes.  In fact, she won several ribbons at the Maryland State Fair for her cakes.  She particularly loved volunteering at The Maryland Science Center and served on their Advisory Board.

What Elsa loved most was being with family.  When the kids and grandkids were all together with her, she was “in heaven.”  Family gatherings were anticipated and savored especially when the grandchildren were there.

“Mimi,” as she was called by the grandkids, enjoyed her quiet times, and read voraciously.  Another little-known fact is that Mimi was a big Orioles fan and would bet on the games with Poppi.

Mimi will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
