Edward Lloyd “Bunky” King, 89

Edward Lloyd “Bunky” King passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2019. Born September 9, 1930 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late George and Anna (nee Magee) King. Wedded to his late wife, and devoted mother Marjorie.  Ed was a remarkable man, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, loyal friend and Marine. 

At 18 years old Ed enlisted with the United States Marine Corps A Co. 1st Engineering Battalion, 1st Marine Division. His service included the Korean Theater of Operations in the Wonsan-Hungnam Chosin Campaign in North Korea. Where he served his country in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.  Upon returning home he rose to the rank of Sgt., his sacrifice and valor were honored by Presidential declaration, and distinguished Service medals.  Honorably discharged Ed continued his involvement with USMC as a member of the exclusive Fraternity of Honor known as The Chosin Few. He served as President of the Chosin Few Mid-Atlantic Chapter and National Director of the 50th Reunion of Korean War Veterans.

In 1955, he began a 30 year career with the Social Security Administration,  Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Disability most notably serving as the national representative of Special Programs, administering benefits defined by the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969.

Retiring in 1985 Ed’s favorite and most memorable time was spent with his family vacationing in Ocean City, MD. While his family continued to grow with 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, his love of heading to the ocean was fulfilled with his loyal companion of 23 years, Lola Fiore.  Ed and Lola travelled the world keeping up with his USMC family as they both celebrated the heritage of being a Marine.

Ed is survived by his sister Norma Smith of Annapolis, MD; his children Barry King and his wife Miriam of Reisterstown, Betsy Wimbrow and her husband Steven of Catonsville, Sue Wenhold and her husband Jeffrey of Crisfield, Leslie Dabrasky and her husband Gordon of Greenwood SC, William King and his wife Maria of Waxhaw, NC his grandchildren; Lindsey and Alyson King, Graham and Miles Wimbrow, Bryant, Frances and Griffin Parker, Brittany and Hillary Dabrasky, Alexis, Emily, Harrison and William King; his great-grandchildren Tenley, Weston, Stella, Sadie and Eliza; and his niece Terry Smith.

Ed will be remembered as a man who lived by the principles of Semper Fidelis and all that it stands for. His selfless support of our family will be greatly missed.

A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday January 4, 2020 at 3 -5 PM at the Candlelight Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD 21228. Interment is private.
