Edith Evans Obituary

Edith Ellen Evans (nee Runkles), 77, of Baltimore, formerly of West Ocean City, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, June 28, 2018.  She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  She was predeased by her loving husband of 51 years, Ronald Joseph Evans, Sr. (Snifter).   She is survived by her son Ronald Joseph Evans, Jr. and his wife Judith; daughter Dawn Marie Nickoles and her husband Charles (Bruzz) Nickoles, Jr.; daughter Mary Elizabeth Lamon and her husband Lawrence (Larry); her son Gregory Damian Evans and his wife Brenda; her son Charles Stephen Evans, Sr., and his wife Jocelyn (Jocey).  She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Joshua, Casey and Anna Evans, Matthew and Melissa Nickoles, Lauren and Christopher Lamon, Colton Evans; Charlie and wife Natalie, Ryan Bryce and Jacob Evans and 2 great grandchildren Camden and Caroline Evans. 

She is predeased by her mother and father Albert T. and Othea Allen, brother James Runkles and sister Elda Runkles; Sister-in-law Cecelia Murphy; Brother-in –law Raymond F. Evans, Jr. and Ingrid Evans.   She is survived by her sister Jane Runkles, Janet and husband Philip Orem and brother  Joe Runkles.  She is also survived by in-laws Louis Murphy, Kathleen and Robert Miller, and Dennis Evans and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

In the early 1960’s she was a member of the Baltimore City Police Department where she was assigned to the Pine Street Station.  She was a member of one of the first in the nation’s Women’s Pistol Team.  She was a sharp shooter on the team.  She left the City Police Department after the birth of her fourth child.  She taught Sunday school at their local parish; she was a reading specialist to elementary school aged children, a member of the PTA and also held several positions on the executive board.  She is a former life member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Department.  She was also a former Executive Board member of the Mystic Harbor Home Association and Ladies Club in West Ocean City. 

She was an avid card player and loved to read.  Her favorite author was Diana Palmer and had every book published by this author.  She enjoyed playing board games such as Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy.  She also loved playing Bingo, especially since that is where she met her husband Ron, while he was calling bingo at the Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Company.  P.S.  she didn’t win that night but she got the bigger prize…the love of her life! 

Family and friends may gather at the St. Mark's Catholic Church Chapel on Tuesday, 9:00 - 10:30am. Funeral Mass to follow immediately after visitation. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery.
