Daniel Canaan Obituary

On July 30th, 2021, Daniel G. Canaan of Catonsville unexpectedly passed on. Born on February 21st, 1959 to the late Norma and Leo Canaan; as the patriarch of his family, he was the loving (favorite) brother of Leo Joseph Canaan, Paula Canaan, Donna Gilkeson, Mary Canaan, David Canaan; cherished (favorite) uncle of Jason Canaan, Sarah Richards, Annie Krieger, Michael Elliott, Justin Thornton, Luke Hager, Taylor Gilkeson, Devin Stevens, Matthew Canaan, Nathan Canaan; dear favorite great uncle of Jaelyn, Logan, Maddox, Chase, Avery, Danielle, Carmindy, Morgan, Jayden, Trey, Jace, Audree, Maddie, Loralee, Rosalynn, Silas, Codie, Brighten, Lincoln and Wesley. Daniel is also survived by his beloved granddaughter, Amelia.

He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1986, followed by a 30 year career as a home appraiser.  He was fond and proud of his community and volunteered in many roles, including feeding the homeless.  He was a member of the Catonsville Men’s Club and Lyons Club.  Within his family, Uncle Danny made everyone feel that they were his “favorite” but left you knowing, without a doubt, that he was yours.  He loved to host family and friends for any occasion, whether it was a baby shower, birthday, Christmas, Fourth of July, or impromptu cookout.  His famous dishes will be missed, as will his passionate talks on the government and Constitution.  He was an avid reader and patriot, the peacemaker of his family, and a humble and gentle man.
