Charlene Roussey Obituary

On Monday, December 10th, Charlene Regina Roussey was guided into heaven by her son, Jamie, where she is happy and whole again.

Cancer never has and never will define Char – only love will. To know Char was to love her. There has never been a single person who didn’t love her. Everybody who met her was honored to have known her, even if only for a brief amount of time. She exuded love. Char could find common ground with anyone she met and there was always a place for anyone at her table.

Char was as beautiful and vibrant on the inside as she was on the outside – down to her funky choice in shoes and her signature pink lipstick and nails. She loved fiercely and protected her own with every fiber of her being. She was so proud of her children; their victories were her victories. The love she had for her family was unlike any other. Even until her last days here with us she would light up when any of her grandbabies came in to kiss her, hold her hand or sing to her.

Char and Fred were the Catonsville Couple! They could be seen any given morning walking hand-in-hand smiling and laughing as they did through life. If you honked, they waved! They might not have known who specifically was honking but they were always quick to offer a warm, friendly hello.

The truth is, cancer didn’t stand a chance against her. It threw so many curve balls and tried knocking her down but Char would bob and weave and get back up ready for more. The pain Char endured was unimaginable and even though the odds were stacked against her, she didn’t see it as a deterrent, she saw it as motivation to prove everyone wrong. She fought bravely. She fought with courage, humility and grace. It didn’t break her spirit. It may have brought her to her knees a few times but she always got back up with a stronger will to fight. Cancer never took her infectious smile from her – not even at the end as she talked to Jamie while half in heaven and half with us. So while her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer might have ended her life, she was the one who won the battle.

Ever the optimist, Char even passed from this world into eternity with a smile on her face.

Char will be missed so deeply and although it will be difficult, we will find a new normal and carry forward as she instructed us to do.

Char was preceded in death by her son, Jamie. She is survived by her husband, Fred, her children: Freddy; Connie and her husband Ryan; Chris and his wife Lauren; Dave & Laura. In addition to her loving children she is survived by 7 grandchildren: Chris, Gracie, Peighton, Sadie, Josie, CJ & Ainsley.
