Catherine Rebecca (Whittington) Joneckis

Catherine Rebecca Joneckis (Whittington), 93, of Ellicott City, Maryland passed peacefully on Tuesday December 8th, 2020.

Catherine was born near Annapolis on September 9, 1927 and spent the early years growing up in and around Annapolis. She enjoyed country life, cycling and the Severn River.  With the death of her mother, she moved to Baltimore to live with relatives.  After graduating high school she became a telephone operator for C&P Bell, largely making her own way.

Catherine met Charles Joneckis of Westminster, Maryland through his sister. They were married in 1948 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Baltimore. They spent several years with each other before starting a family.  Charles and Catherine had two sons, Christopher and Lance.

Catherine was a devoted parent, who sacrificed much for her sons.  Catherine volunteered, at school, drove endless hours to school, sports, music lessons, and many other activities.  She spent countless hours, making Halloween costumes, school art and science projects, sewing, providing motherly comfort and support.  She was a dear mother, and we her sons, owe her and our father Charles much to their guidance, comfort, and sacrifice. Weekends were spent on the Bay in our boat and visiting local historic sites. Family vacations to regional attractions.

Catherine enjoyed home decorating, gourmet cooking, gardening, architecture, listening to classical music and theatrical plays.  In retirement, Catherine and Charles enjoyed local and regional travel, vacations, outdoor walks, listening to music, playing cards, remodeling and decorating a new home, and spoiling grandchildren. They especially enjoyed family vacations in Maine and North Carolina.  Dementia slowly drained her spirit, robbing her of the last few years of her life.

Catherine is survived by her two sons, Christopher (62) and Lance (58) , grandchildren, Caroline (24) and Evan (20) and several nieces and nephews.
