Bernard Edgar White

Bernard “Bernie” White, 80, of Catonsville, passed into the arms of his Savior on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Born Feb 24, 1941 in Baltimore, Bernard was the only child of Anna Mae Linthicum and Edgar White. After graduating from Catonsville High School, he earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland College Park and a Master’s from Johns Hopkins University. Bernard dedicated his life to education, working as an elementary school teacher and then later a reading specialist for Baltimore County Public Schools, as well as tutoring many students in his spare time. Bernard was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Catonsville, where he sang in the choir and involved himself in many other activities, including taking great care in picking out and decorating the church Christmas trees each year. He loved anything to do with the water, and he especially enjoyed sailing whenever he had the opportunity. He also loved his many dogs over the years - Chrissy, Misty, Nugget and Honey. Bernard enjoyed spending time with his family, and he will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Nadia, his mother Anna, grandmother Jennie, and great aunt Virginia and uncle Don. He is survived by daughter Jennifer (Brian), son Eric (Valerie), and granddaughters Serenity and Melody.

A celebration of Bernard’s life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 beginning at 1:30pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, located at 929 Ingleside Ave. in Catonsville. In lieu of flowers, donations designated for financial aid may be sent to Emmanuel Lutheran School, 929 Ingleside Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228.
