William Joseph “Bill” Herberich (87) of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Margaret “Peg” Herberich (nee Stone); loving children, Cheryl St. Amant, James Herberich (Laurie), and Michael Herberich (Kara); dear grandchildren, John St. Amant (Sara), Jeremy Herberich, Clint Herberich, Grayson Herberich, Callum Herberich, Eric Herberich, and Colin Herberich; and great-grandchildren, Carson St. Amant and Malcolm St. Amant.
A lifelong Maryland resident, Bill was born in the Canton area of Baltimore. Bill raised his family in Dundalk and Reisterstown before relocating to Ocean Pines. A graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School (1956), Bill earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the McCoy College of The Johns Hopkins University (1965) and became a licensed professional engineer in Maryland (1968). Bill worked 41 years for Baltimore County Department of Public Works, serving as Acting Director of Public Works for one year and retiring as Chief of the Bureau of Utilities (1997). Subsequently, he held the position of Deputy Director of Public Works for Worcester County until his second retirement (2001).
Over the next 15 years, Bill enjoyed travel and photography, embarking on over 50 trips across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. His travels included 15 riverboat trips in Germany, France, and Russia. Bill documented these journeys with over 50,000 photos, editing and posting over 1,000 of them on Facebook as Travel Memories. Bill was active in the Fireside Artists of Charlestown club, where he exhibited his photographs in their gallery shows.
Per Bill’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services. The family appreciates your love and support during this difficult time and asks that you celebrate his memory in your own way.
