Sandy (Grimes) Allen of Ellicott City, MD passed away suddenly on March 31, 2016.
She was born in Baltimore, MD on September 16, 1953 to Shirley (Dean) Grimes and the late Thomas John Grimes.
Loving wife of Michael Frank Allen, devoted mother of Joann Marie Waggener and Kerianne Elizabeth Allen, cherished Nana to Josh and Nick Mabry, dear sister of Ben Grimes, Billy Grimes, Thomas Grimes, David Grimes and Dee Rusta.
Sandy grew up in Baltimore, where she graduated from Western High School in 1971 with honors. She graduated from University of Baltimore with an Undergraduate Degree, as well as, University College at College Park with a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration. Sandy worked for the University of Maryland Baltimore Dental School for over 30 years. She was the Director of Central Material Services where she supported dental school faculty and students through her strong work ethic, persistence, management skills, and development of a support staff. Before her tenure at UMB she worked in administration at the University of Maryland Baltimore Hospital in Shock Trauma and Johns Hopkins on the Homewood Campus.
Sandy enjoyed supporting her daughters, grandsons, and extended family. She was an active member of her daughter's athletic teams in Arbutus, Ellicott City, at UMBC, and Towson University by attending games, coordinating activities, and fundraisers. Sandy enjoyed hosting family gatherings during holidays and special occasions where she got to showcase her cooking and baking skills. In her free time she loved traveling to Maryland’s Eastern shore, Ocean City, Fenwick Island, Rehoboth Beach, and Myrtle Beach. She had a creative eye for home decor as her home exemplified. Sandy was kindhearted and always held a special place in her heart for animals, especially her family dogs Sabrina, Cooper, Izzy, and Nick.
