Rosemarie Blackert of Catonsville, MD passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, August 29, 2025. Born to Clarence and Mary Regina Hoffman (nee Wurtzer) on July 5, 1931 in Baltimore, Rose is survived by her husband Donald Blackert, Sr.; daughter Maryann; son Donald Jr. and daughter-in-law Kelsey; grandchildren Hayley, Jaxon, and Hayden; and brothers and sisters June, James, Annette, Angie, Mike, and Thomas. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Regina.
Rose worked as a typist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 20 years before she became a devoted wife and mother to her two children. Rose is remembered as an expert baker, crab-picker, seamstress, and even Piano Baby collector, but mostly as the ultimate caregiver, helping to raise and nurture not just her own children but her many nieces and nephews. Rose shared her infectious kindness with everyone she encountered. Her home was a safe haven to family and friends, and no one ever left a visit hungry. She was known for the mini reubens she lovingly made every Christmas Eve and the wonderful cakes she baked for family dinners. She embodied a selfless and generous heart—donating to so many charities that anyone who knew Rose would leave her house with a charity calendar she had received in the mail.
Family and friends may gather at Candle Light Funeral Home (1835 Frederick Rd., Catonsville, MD 21228) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 for a Visitation from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral service will take place at Candle Light Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10:00am. A graveside service will follow at New Cathedral Cemetery (4300 Old Frederick Rd., Baltimore, MD 21229). We will continue to celebrate her life at a luncheon reception at Matthew’s 1600 in Catonsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rosemarie’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or St. Jude Shrine (512 W. Saratoga Street, Baltimore, MD 21201), where Rose and Donald have been dedicated members for 30 years.
