With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosalie Messina (née Liberto) on September 27, 2025.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Rosalie was the beloved only daughter of Samuel and Nancy Liberto (née Fonte). She attended Catholic school in Baltimore through 1945 and carried her faith and values with her throughout her life.
Rosalie was the cherished matriarch of the Messina family. Her warmth and love brought joy to every holiday gathering, and her embrace could light up even the quietest room. Life in a small beach town in Delaware held a special place in her heart, where she found peace and happiness in its simple beauty. A graceful dancer with a radiant smile, Rosalie had a spirit that was both elegant and unforgettable.
Above all, her greatest joy came from being a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her world, and her love for them was unconditional and everlasting.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter Messina; her beloved son, Steven Messina; her cherished grandson, Nicholas Valenstein; and her dear brother, Samuel Liberto Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Messina and Cathy Borror (née Messina); her grandchildren, Jason Higdon (Dawn), Doug Higdon (Kristen), Shawn Higdon, Christopher Messina, Ashley West (Joshua), Gina Fabi, and Anthony Fabi (Bryanna); and her great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Ethan Higdon, Alessandra and Gianna Higdon, Adriana Koontz, Logan and Joshua West Jr., and Vincenzo Fabi.
Rosalie's legacy of love, strength, and grace lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
