Natalia Khingelova

September 20, 1953 — November 23, 2025

My heart is broken as I share that my beautiful mother, Natalia Khingelova-Rau, born Natasha Dugarova, passed away on Sunday, November 23rd after a long illness. There will never be another woman like her, and the world already feels empty without her.

She was born on August 5, 1953, in a small village in the Republic of Buryatia in Siberia, Russia-a place so remote it had no electricity. From the very beginning, she was strong, brilliant, and determined. Her mind was sharp, her spirit fearless, and her talent unmistakable. She began her career as a librarian, went to graduate school in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and carried her wisdom and creativity into every part of her life.

In 1992, while living in Saint Petersburg, she met Jeff Rau, and they fell in love almost instantly. Just one month later, they were married, making a decision that became the beginning of a beautiful 34-year partnership filled with love, loyalty, support, and joy.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, my mom, Jeff, and I left Russia together and came to the United States, beginning a new chapter built on courage, hope, and determination. My mom taught herself English, one word at a time, refusing to let fear or uncertainty stop her.

Despite having a deep fear of driving, she launched her real estate career by taking public buses-professionally dressed, carrying "For Sale" signs-to meet clients and begin helping families. Through sheer willpower and endless hard work, she became one of Delaware's top realtors, helping countless people buy homes they never believed they could. Her honesty, dedication, intelligence, and heart changed lives. And in a beautiful full-circle moment, the woman who once feared driving eventually drove a Tesla.

My mom sacrificed so much for me and for our family. She placed our needs above her own, always. Her love was unconditional and unwavering. She believed in me, encouraged me, and grounded me when life became overwhelming.

Elegance, grace, and beauty were qualities she seemed born with. Her presence lit every space.
Her hugs were the safest place in the world, and I miss them more than words can express.

I feel blessed beyond anything to have been gifted with such an extraordinary mother. Knowing her and being loved by her were among the greatest privileges of my life.

Her grandchildren, Sophia Jennifer and Benjamin Ivan Jeffrey, adored her deeply, and she carried them in her heart until her final moment.

She is survived by her loving husband Jeffrey Rau; her brother Viktor Nagataev; her daughter Kristina Khingelova; and her beloved grandchildren Sophia Khingelova and Benjamin Tyburski. She was predeceased by her parents, Badma Dugarov and Marfa Dugarova.

Natalia's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, Maryland 21228.
