Michael R. Warner, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully on September 30, 2025 at home in Ellicott City, MD after a long illness.
The son of Winfield R. and Margaret Eileen Warner, Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years Diane Warner, sons Matthew P. Warner (Holly) and Stephen J. Warner (Ashley) and grandchildren Logan, Aubrey, Benjamin, and Luke. Also surviving are his sons from a previous marriage, Michael D. Warner (Rhonda) and Jason M. Warner (Bonnie) and grandchildren Wade, River, and Willow.
Michael was preceded in death by his sisters Mary K. Poulin and Elizabeth Ham and brothers John David, Patrick and Robert Warner. He is survived by brothers Terrance Warner (Linda), Joseph Warner (Sherida), and William Warner (Janet) and by sisters Margaret Gillispie and Frances Buller (Christopher) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born in Newton, Kansas, Michael attended St. Mary Catholic School. He graduated from Newton High School in 1963. From a young age, he worked at Graves Drug Store and after graduation he was employed by Boeing in Wichita, Kansas.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in December 1964 and served as a medical technician throughout his 20-year career in a variety of patient care settings, advancing in skills and leadership responsibilities. Initially, he was assigned to Forbes AFB and McConnell AFB in Kansas. During the Vietnam War, he completed assignments at Korat AB, Thailand and Yokota AB, Japan. He was most proud of his seven years as an aeromedical evacuation technician with Det. 1, 1st Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron (AES) at Scott AFB, IL, the 2nd AES at Rhein-Main AB, FRG, and the 57th AES at Scott AFB. He was honorably retired from the Air Force at Andrews AFB, MD in December 1984 with the rank of Master Sergeant. His military awards include the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
After retirement from military service, Michael was employed by Sears, Home Depot, a medical equipment company, and Johns Hopkins Uniformed Services Family Health Program. In May 1993, he graduated from the University of Maryland University College with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Michael was active in the Knights of Columbus, serving as the Charter Grand Knight of St. Francis of Assisi Council #12524, Fulton, MD and as Faithful Navigator of Fr. Michael J. McGivney Assembly #2595, Mount Airy, MD. For many years he was an active member of the Color Corps promoting patriotism and adding dignity to religious and civic ceremonies.
Michael's favorite pastimes included coin collecting, playing cards with friends and watching NASCAR races and football games on TV. But his happiest times were those spent with his children and grandchildren.
Michael was laid to rest following a brief service with military honors at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11505 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD.
