Mary Lakin

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Lakin on June 16, 2026, at the age of 83. Mary, born on April 20, 1943, in Maryland, lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to others. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eugenia Lakin. As well as her siblings, George Lakin and Elizabeth Rafalides.

Mary is survived by her beloved sons, John Swaner, Nikolas Swaner and son in law, Magnus Hoopes, whose lives she dedicated herself to nurturing and supporting. She will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends, who will remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering strength. Mary devoted her career as a Network Analyst in the medical field, where she was employed by Johns Hopkins University. 

Friends and family may gather for a visitation on June 25, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Rd. Catonsville, MD 21228. The funeral service will take place at the Chapel of the Holy Resurrection in the Greek Orthodox Cemetery, 5917 Windsor Mill Rd. Gwynn Oak, MD 21207, on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by her burial at the same location. 

Mary’s legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit and the memories created will remain forever alive in our hearts.
