Joseph Dana Zill, Sr. passed away on September 21, 2025 with his wife, Mary, by his side. He fought long and hard to stay with us, but his failing body won, not even allowing him to speak his last words. Dana was ill as a child. The doctors said he wouldn’t be able to run, roller skate, or ride a bike, but he did all those things and more. He grew to be a very strong man. He would tear the old, thick telephone books in half to the delight of his children. Mary called him her Superman. He worked hard for his family, often working overtime as an industrial maintenance mechanic; work he loved to do.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, who he loved for 64 years and was married to for 60 years; his daughter, Carla; son, Joe; and daughter, Jenn; his grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter, Jordan, Jake, Maia; great-grandson, Noah; and great-granddaughter to be born in October. He loved all his children and grands more than words can say.
He loved to listen to music. His favorite song is “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner. He dreamed he might one day fly in a fighter jet. He loved animals and nature, watches, coins, tools, superhero action movies, and Tootsie Roll Pops.
He will be missed, but not forgotten. The song has ended, the melody lingers on.
