John Anthony Rizzo passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at St. Agnes Hospital, surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness.
John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Louis and Margaret (Deitz) Rizzo. He was a proud second-generation Italian American. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he spent his career in the medical field, first as a respiratory therapist and later in management roles. He worked at various area hospitals and medical centers, eventually retiring from the Baltimore VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeff Rizzo.
John enjoyed participating in charity motorcycle rides with the American Legion. He was a lifelong photography enthusiast, capturing many weddings, family events, and scenes of nature. He cherished spending time with family and traveling with his wife, especially to Italy. Over the years, he also became a devoted dog lover and always had a soft spot for his furry family members.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Marylu Rizzo. He and Marylu met while working together at Bon Secours and created a blended family full of love and laughter. Together they raised three sons: Jeff Rizzo, Ryan Nash (wife Nicole), and Corky Nash (wife Heidi). John cherished time with his grandchildren—Kyle Rizzo, Charlie Nash, Rocco Rizzo, Jack Nash, Sloane Nash, and Josie Nash. He is also survived by his sister, Celeste Dean, as well as many nieces, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/give.html).
