John "Jack" Rose

John “Jack” Rose, a lifelong Catonsville resident, passed away suddenly on September 25, 2026. He was born on May 27, 1978, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Jim Rose (Janis) and Karen Rose.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, educator, coach, and friend who dedicated much of his life to the Catonsville community. Along with his wife, Cara, and their children, Hugh and Mary, Jack made his home in the community he loved.

After graduating from Catonsville High School, Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from Villa Julie College, where he played lacrosse. He eventually earned his master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. His love of the sport continued long after his playing days, as he became a dedicated volunteer, coach, and supporter of Catonsville youth sports. Lacrosse was particularly close to his heart. Jack coached countless young athletes, helping them develop their skills and a love of the game.

Jack spent his professional career as an educator with Baltimore City Public Schools, where he focused on special education. His work with students reflected the same dedication and commitment to helping others that he brought to coaching and the community.

A passionate Baltimore sports fan, Jack was a relentless supporter of the Ravens and Orioles. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia, with an extensive collection that included bobbleheads. His enthusiasm for celebrating extended beyond sports. Jack’s home became something of a local landmark, known for its festive inflatables that appeared for every holiday and brought smiles to family, friends, neighbors, and passersby.

His sudden passing leaves a deep void for his family, friends, former students, players, and the many members of the community whose lives he touched.

Jack is survived by his wife, Cara; his children, Hugh and Mary; his parents, Jim, Janis, and Karen; his siblings, Brian Baker (Missi) and Jennifer Turner (Aaron); many nieces and nephews; and an extensive extended family and network of friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Kim and Brad.

His memory will live on in the community, on the lacrosse fields, in the classrooms where he made a difference, and in the countless lives he touched along the way.

A celebration of life will be held at Matthews 1600, located at 1600 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
