John Francis Allen, 77, of Woodlawn, Maryland, passed away on August 13, 2026. He was born on July 12, 1949, in Maryland to Patricia Ann and Michael Joseph Allen.
At 21 years old, John became a born-again Christian and began a life of faith in God and commitment to his various church communities. He was a photography and astronomy enthusiast, often discussing astronomical phenomena with his loved ones. John would go on to name the beloved family cat Lynx after the Lynx constellation. John enjoyed spending his time swimming, whether at the community pool or out at the beach. He recently enjoyed resting in a comfortable recliner with his headphones on, listening to his beloved classical music. He will be missed by many dear friends and family members.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia Ann Rosen and Michael Joseph Allen, and step-father, Robert P. Rosen; and his dear brothers, Jimmy Allen and Chris Allen. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Allen; his beloved daughters, Christina D. Allen (Daniel Velasquez) and Jessica Herr (Henry Herr); his cherished granddaughter, Evaluna Velasquez-Allen; and his dear brothers, Mike Allen, Larry Allen, Dana Allen, and Mark Allen, and step-siblings, Linda Brager and Marc Rosen.
Family and friends may gather at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM & 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date; details to be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in John's memory to a charity of choice.
