Earl William Dew, 78, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on May 28, 2025. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Frances Dew, and his sister Sandra L. Martin. Earl is survived by his devoted wife, Ann Marie Dew, and his loving children, Chris Dew (Ellen), Jeff Dew (Jessica), and his brother, William E. Dew (Tess). He was also a cherished grandfather to Camryn Dew, Alyse Dew, Juliet Dew, Catherine Dew, and Preston Dew. His loss will be felt by many other caring family and friends.
Raised in Catonsville, MD, Earl attended Catonsville High School and the University of Maryland, University College. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in February 1967, serving in the Philippines and Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
After his return to the U.S., Earl, known as “Butch” to all (and later “Sunshine,” to some) married his beloved wife, Ann Marie in 1970 and raised his family in Woodlawn, MD. His business career included many years of service to Westinghouse, where he worked on the AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) radar. When not traveling for work, Butch cherished his time with family, especially coaching his sons and other neighborhood kids in the EDRECO rec leagues, which he had also been the President of for many years. His sons, Jeff and Chris, carry forward their father’s passion for coaching today.
Butch’s love of sports continued in his retirement. As a golfer and later starter at the Woodlands golf course, Butch brought competitive spirit, and humor to every game. An avid reader, he loved to engage in repartee or even a friendly sparring match on politics with just about anyone willing to accept the challenge, over a soda or a Rusty Nail. Butch never missed an opportunity to heckle his loved ones, particularly his grandchildren. His jeers will be missed by all who loved him; may he now rest in peace.
