With heavy hearts, we share that on July 13, 2025, Cory Michael Michie unexpectedly passed away at the age of 38. His loss leaves a massive void in the lives of family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Cory is survived by his loving parents, James “Monk” Michie IV and Donna Michie, his devoted wife of 19 years and best friend, Amanda Michie, and their four children Camden Michie (13), Carter Michie (12), Ayla Michie (10), and Arin Michie (8). He is also survived by his brothers, James “Monty” Michie V (and wife Virginia Sheehan-Michie), Chadwick Michie (and wife Anna Michie); maternal grandmother, Esther Peters; mother-in-law, Cynthia Russell, brothers-in-law, Matthew Dary (and wife Megan Dary) and Eric Dary. Cory was also cherished and the fun uncle to Lucy Michie, Nolan Michie, Ethan Michie, Abigail Dary, Hannah Dary, Jacob Dary, and Madison Dary.
Ever the adventurer and lover of life, Cory lived the kind of life that anyone would aspire to have. Cory was a 20 year Navy veteran; a devoted husband; a loving father, brother, and son; an amazing friend; and an enthusiast of both the journey and the destination. He was always looking for moments to enrich his life and the lives of those around him. He often asked others, “Are you living your best life?” Whenever a trip or event was mentioned, it was never a matter of if but when. Cory made it happen, always pulling everyone together.
Cory had a magnetic personality, and in any group setting, you’d eventually find him with an audience, sharing a story, and filling the room with laughter. To place him in a box was an exercise in futility. He made connections and built communities everywhere he went, and he was always finding ways to bring people together. Knowing Cory meant expanding your chosen family because to know him, was to know the love of a brother and friend. No matter where his journey took him, Cory cherished the friends he made along the way and continued to think of them as such, even as life evolved. He was an animated storyteller, and maybe a slight embellisher. A collector of moments and memories, Cory was a testament to the power of connection.
We were all so lucky to know him.
Cory’s greatest adventure was the life he made with Amanda and the family they built together. Though he held many titles, none meant more to him than that of “dad.” He prioritized creating everlasting bonds with his children through anime, music, gaming, and frequent traveling. Cory never missed the opportunity to visit a gift shop with them on trips. He enjoyed picking out books and mangas he thought they would enjoy reading and discussing. He introduced his girls to musical theater and pop punk concerts, often blasting songs from both throughout the house. With his boys, he relived his own youth by sharing the video games he had grown up playing with his own brothers. He perfectly balanced raising his children by guiding them through life’s lessons while encouraging them to find their own paths. He did this alongside his high school sweetheart, Amanda, going through life as partners, teammates, and best friends. His love for her was evident by anyone who knew them. Their love story and marriage served as an inspiration and model for many, but especially for their children.
Family and friends may gather for a visitation on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (open casket) and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (closed casket) with a memorial service taking place at 4:00 PM at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228.
