Carol Colton McCanna, age 82, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at Charlestown Retirement Home. Born on January 14, 1943, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Earl Colton, who both preceded her in death. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence McCanna for 60 years and loving mother to Katherine Glynn (son-in-law, Jim), Michael McCanna (daughter-in-law, Laura), and Marybeth Pieper (son-in-law, Patrick). She was the proud Grammy toJack, Casey, and Miles McCanna; Patrick and Lucas Glynn;and Rachel and Jamie Pieper. Carol is also survived by her sisters, Ann Bartlett (husband, John) and Barbara Dontell (husband, Nick); her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Seif, DDS; and many nieces, nephews and Pudgy’s.
Carol grew up in Catonsville and attended Catonsville High School. She was actively involved in the CHS Booster Club and the Class of 1961 Reunion Committee, taking great joy inorganizing class reunions and school activities. Besides being a great full-time mom, she also contributed to the community as a substitute teacher in Catonsville schools for many years. Mrs. McCanna was loved and supported by so many students.
Carol loved to travel with her husband, and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay was one of their favorite activities. In 1997, they purchased a house in St. Michaels, Maryland, and settled into small-town life for many years before traveling to Florida in their RV. Naples became a second home to Carol and Larry, where they enjoyed playing golf and bocce ball, as well as spending time with friends in their Silver Lakes community.They returned to Baltimore in the spring of 2021, and Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville became their new home.
May she rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her. May she be reunited with her loved ones in heaven.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Candle Light Funeral Home in Catonsville, 1835 Frederick Road, on Thursday, June 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Friday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church located at the Charlestown Retirement Home, 711 Maiden Choice Lane. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge.
