Brian Lowell Detweiler was born in Ohio on September 22, 1930. He passed peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Orpha Detweiler; siblings, Robert Detweiler, Donald Detweiler, Nancy McCracken, Iris Detweiler, and former spouse, Marie Detweiler.

Brian is survived by his loving children, Michael Detweiler, Lucinda Risley, son-in-law Joe, and later-life partner, Carolyn Kiefer. Including his dear siblings, Bruce Detweiler, Vivian Stifler and Joan Gravel. He was also a cherished grandfather to Nicholas Detweiler, Ryan Detweiler, Bethany Detweiler, Katia Racine, Andrea Racine and great grandchildren, Laila Detweiler and Unique Anthony. His loss will be felt by many other caring family and friends.

After serving in the army, stationed in Germany as a tank operator, Brian went to Anderson College where he met and married Marie. With their two children in tow, they eventually moved to Baltimore, where Brian worked at the Social Security Administration until his retirement after 25 years of service. A man of many talents, Brian also worked as a school teacher, a farmer, and auto mechanic. He loved philosophical conversations with friends and family, always bringing his unique sensibilities to the discussion. He was also an avid sports fan, especially for his beloved Ravens.

Brian wore many “hats” in life. To name a few: lover of music, appreciator of grandchildren, lender of a helping hand, tinkerer who thought anything could be held together with bailing wire and bubble gum. His straw hats, though, were usually patched with gaffer’s tape. Whether in rubber boots walking the land or gently cradling a softball in a leather glove getting ready to wind up a pitch, you could tell that Brian felt at home in his life. Unassuming, friendly, and open-minded, he made people feel at ease. But he did lay claim to just enough quirkiness to make him a conundrum to some. Unflinching and steadfast, he remained true to himself and in the end, we all benefitted from it.
