Barbara G. Gakenheimer

On June 24, 2026, BARBARA G. GAKENHEIMER (nee Schaeffer), passed away at Harbor Hospice. Barbara was the daughter of William A and Mildred (Meade) Schaeffer. She was the beloved wife of late Herbert (November 11, 2002); devoted step mother of John H. Gakenheimer; loving step grandmother to Bradley and Dr. Lindsey Gakenheimer Smith; step great grandmother of Naomi (Smith); sister of the late William R. Schaeffer (November 19, 2023) and caring aunt to Matthew (wife, Vicki), Joshua and Nick. Barbara and Herbert had been long-term residents at Charlestown Retirement Community. Barbara’s interest over the years has always included her devotion to the Christ Lutheran Church along with helping others who always came first in Barbara’s life. Barbara’s other interest included watching her favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles, play baseball. When Barbara and Herbert moved into Charlestown they enjoyed walking their dog, along with working in the garden and just spending time together.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 30th, 2026, at 11 am at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228 with Viewing one hour prior to Service. Interment in Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Benevolent Care Fund of Charlestown, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, 21228.
