It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Derreth on Feb 27, 2026 in Catonsville, Maryland.

Barbara was born July 12, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland to Edward Andrew Mullin Jr. and Helen Marie Kammer. Barbara was the oldest of four children, predeceased by sisters Patricia Mullin and Christy Stolpe. She is survived by her younger brother, Ed Mullin.

Barbara was a warm, loving wife and best friend to her husband Edward Derreth.

Barb and Ed met in June 1961, then married in May 1963, sharing over six decades of love. They began their marriage living in Dutch Village, Baltimore, Maryland. In 1966, Barb and Ed built their home in Ellicott City, Maryland where they raised their family until moving to Charlestown Retirement Community in 2011. They were blessed with three daughters, Stephanie Beverungen (John), Laura Derreth, Kimberly Starkey (Hank), and two granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah Starkey, all of whom brought her immense joy.

Barbara enjoyed vacationing with extended family, first in Ocean City, Maryland and later taking annual trips to Siesta Key, Florida. Barbara also loved traveling to the Caribbean, exploring the lighthouses of New England, taking afternoon drives, spending time on the water, collecting seashells, and enjoying quiet evenings watching sunsets from her balcony.

Barbara will be remembered for her quiet strength, compassion, kindness and unconditional love. She was a 1961 graduate of Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing, passionate about taking care of others, and dedicating her career to The Pediatric Center of Catonsville, Maryland. Barbara was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Ellicott City where she especially loved her time spent in the bell choir and altar guild. Barbara also loved collectables that she would display throughout her home and enjoyed sharing them with others.

Above all, Barbara’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her husband and family.

Memorial details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to First Lutheran Church of Ellicott City, Maryland.
