Barbara Cavey Chauvin
(April 18, 1943 – October 26, 2025)
A Life of Faith, Purpose, and Unforgettable Joy
Barbara Cavey Chauvin, of Millsboro, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on October 26th, peacefully and surrounded by her family. A devoted wife, mother, teacher, and friend, Barbara lived each day with grace, humor, and a contagious smile that lit up every room she entered.
Born on April 18th, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, Barbara was the daughter of the late George and Helen Cavey (née Streit). She dedicated her life to pouring into others through her family, her friendships, and her classroom. A beloved high school teacher for decades, she inspired generations of students to pursue careers in education, child development, and family care. She was a pioneer in launching of dual-credit programs that allowed students to earn college credit while still in high school — opening doors to their futures and shaping the educators of tomorrow.
Barbara’s joy extended far beyond the classroom. She loved the beach, the sunshine, and any occasion to gather, entertain, and celebrate life’s moments with those she loved. A gifted interior designer at heart, she created warmth and beauty wherever she went whether hosting holidays, styling a home, or turning an ordinary afternoon into a special memory.
Barbara graduated from Catonsville High School, Catonsville Community College, and Shepherd College in West Virginia, later earning her Master’s degree from the University of Maryland. She went on to lead Home Economics departments in both Howard and Baltimore Counties, ultimately finishing her career at Catonsville High School.
A 43-year breast cancer survivor, Barbara lived her faith with courage and compassion. She became a tireless advocate and support group leader for others navigating cancer, forming lifelong friendships with her oncology team and inspiring hope through her resilience, humor, and steadfast faith.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Pat; her son Mark (and Gina) Chauvin; her granddaughter, Eliana Chauvin; her daughter Jennifer (and Chris) Hinton; and step-grandchildren Alex and Nikki. Her 59-year love story with Pat was a beautiful testament to devotion, resilience, humor, and enduring love. She is also remembered by countless friends, students, and colleagues who carry forward her legacy of light and love.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23rd, at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service and celebration beginning at 2:00 p.m.
“Her faith was her compass, her smile her ministry, and her love her lasting gift to all who knew her.”
