Alfred “Al” Ludger Bergeron

November 5, 1927 – November 8, 2025

Alfred “Al” Ludger Bergeron passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Maryland, just days after celebrating his 98th birthday—and following two victorious games of bingo.

Born on November 5, 1927, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Al was one of five brothers and one sister. He was a veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army, 1946-1947. After a long and devoted courtship, he married his soulmate, Doris Marie (Dugal), on October 20, 1956. Together they had one son, Paul, and built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith.

In 1968, Al moved with his family to the home he built himself in Somerset, Massachusetts. In 2006, he and Doris relocated to Charlestown Retirement Community, where they enjoyed their later years together. Doris, the love of his life, preceded him in death on February 22, 2022.

Al was a man of great warmth and quiet humor. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and savoring the simple joys of life. His gentle spirit, dedication, and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son Paul and daughter-in-law Andrea, his grandchildren Paul Jr. and Madeline Marie Barker (husband Zachary), and their children Evie and Archie. He is also loving remembered by his sister Annette (Ann) Cabral (husband Anthony) and brother Robert Bergeron (wife Karin).

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland, on November 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. A memorial gathering for family and friends will follow at the church. Al will be laid to rest beside his beloved Doris at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River, Massachusetts.
