Walter Hughes, Jr. Obituary

Walter Hughes, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep Friday morning July 13th; the beloved husband of the late Carol (Conklin) Hughes, devoted father to Barbara Hughes Shippy of Arden, DE, the late Cynthia Hughes of Boca Raton, FL & Deborah Hughes Anderson of Catonsville, MD & her husband Donald; loving grandfather of John Scott, Andrea Cutler & Riley Shippy.

Walter was born September 26th, 1932, to Milbur and Walter Hughes, Sr. & was the youngest of 5 children; with four older sisters.

He met his wife, Carol, in Catonsville where they attended Catonsville High School. After graduating from University of MD College Park, he & Carol married and settled in Catonsville, raising their family of 3 girls.

Family functions, holidays, hosting dinner parties & playing bridge were a big part of their life.  Walter cherished his time with his friends & family, including all the nieces and nephews.

Walter spent his career in education; as a teacher and a guidance counselor.  While at Clifton Park Jr High School he made friendships that lasted his lifetime.  After earning his Master's Degree, he worked for Baltimore County Schools at Middle River Jr High, Lansdowne Sr High and Johnnycake Jr High, until his retirement.  Walter helped steer the lives of countless youth & never wanted to lose that connection with his students.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, soaking up the sun & spending time at his beach house in Ocean Pines.  He was particularly proud to have his friends and acquaintances get to know his grandchildren.

He will be missed by all those he has touched in his 85 years.
