Michael Curcio

Michael Curcio was loved by his friends, his neighbors, his family, his clients, his caregivers, and his colleagues. His journey moved into its next phase on July 5, 2019 following a long illness. He was 70.

He was the father of David Michael (LoraAnne) and Stella (deceased) and grandfather to Frankie and Victoria. He was the significant other of Meryl Cozart.

Michael was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Domenica (“Kitty”) Altamuro and Dominic Curcio on January 23, 1949. He had a number of siblings – Frank (deceased), Joseph (deceased), John (deceased), Nancy (deceased), Marie, and Barbara. He also had many nieces and nephews who enjoyed his company.

Michael became a hairdresser at a young age, working at the barbershop in the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia before it gained its fame as the home of Legionnaire’s Disease. He also worked in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania and in various salons in Manhattan and Westchester County, New York before moving to Baltimore, where he worked at Carl’s Intercoiffure, Giovanna’s, Paul’s, Best Heads, and Zibazz.

Most of his worklife in Baltimore centered around Zibazz Salon and Day Spa in Owings Mills, where his colleagues and clients were a second family to him. Zibazz was truly his home away from home. He was there until his illness forced his retirement in 2017.

Michael loved good food, good wine, games of strategy (chess, pool, poker, Risk), movies – especially action films containing special effects – and had varied interests from physics to archeology to nature. He loved to compete and loved to be challenged.

His laughter and joie de vivre were infectious. We miss him terribly.

A memorial service will be held at Candle Light Funeral Home on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service, we will have a buffet lunch at Zibazz Salon and Day Spa, 9199 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills. Please join us.
