James R. Milani Jr., a well-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, counselor, friend and neighbor, died on June 26, 2019. He was 68.
Jim was born March 14, 1951, in Baltimore to James and Patricia Milani, and was the second of nine children. He is survived by Elizabeth Milani (nee Lutz), his wife of 46 years; his children, Kate Milani, Beth Brundage (Matthew) and James P. Milani; his granddaughters Quinn Brundage and Delaney Brundage; sisters Beth Anderson (Bobby Boegershausen), Patrice Milani (Judy Turnbaugh), Jean Carbo (Tom, deceased) and Laura Burke (Adam) and brothers Mark (Juanita), Jack (Jackie) and Michael (Joanne). He was preceded in death by his brother Paul (Carol).
Jim, a perpetual optimist, always had a game plan and created his dream life focused on family, friends and his work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 1969. The same year, he met his wife, Liz, at UMBC in Mr. Robinson’s math class. After graduation, Jim worked at UMBC for 45 years, serving the university as an academic advisor, Residential Life counselor and director, and an administrator in the College of Engineering.
He loved coaching his children in sports and sharing his appreciation of music with them.
Jim was a resident of Ellicott City, Md. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, June 28 from 4-7 p.m. at the Candle Light Funeral Home by Craig Witzke (1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, Md., 21228). A funeral mass will be held Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church (5422 Old Frederick Road, Catonsville, Md., 21229).
