Francis Oehler Obituary

Francis (Frank) Howard Oehler, age 85, passed peacefully on March 24, of natural causes.  Francis is survived by his siblings Joan Smith, Laura Fox, and Clark Oehler; children Laura (David) Lake, Sherry Oehler, and Jack Oehler; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank was born in Baltimore and served honorably for the U.S. Army in the Korean War and later also served in Germany.  He received numerous honors, including: the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), Combat Infantryman Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and Good Conduct Medal.

Frank was a lover of nature and the outdoors.  He enjoyed boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting, camping, and almost anything that brought him in closer contact with nature.  He especially loved spending time on the Chesapeake Bay.  As he spent more time in the outdoors, he began to embrace photography as a means by which to capture and preserve all the beauty he observed.

Frank’s family would like to extend their thanks to the Baltimore VA Medical Center, Beechwood Assisted Living, Frederick Villa, and Gilchrist Hospice.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 11am at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 1930 Brookdale Rd., Baltimore, MD 21244; a luncheon reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Francis H. Oehler’s name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
