Eleanor Yost Obituary

Eleanor Kempter Yost of Gainesville, VA, born on February 20, 1938 in Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 20, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was the devoted wife of the late Arthur C. Yost Jr.; beloved mother of Catherine Yost Stultz and son-in-law Michael Connors; and loving grandmother of Zachary Stultz, Tristan Connors and the late Aurora Connors. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin C. Kempter and Catherine (Whalen) Kempter, her brother Wayne Kempter, and her beloved husband of 63 years, Arthur Yost.

Eleanor grew up in Baltimore, MD where she attended Western Senior High School, graduating in 1956.  That same year she married Arthur and they bought a home in Catonsville, Md, where they raised their only daughter Cathy.  Eleanor worked at York Ridge Calvert Savings and Loan and Household Finance until retiring in 1995.

Eleanor, also known as El to her family and friends, was a strong yet incredibly caring woman, with a heart of gold, who was well liked and respected by those who knew her.  She was a loving and devoted wife, nurturing mother, doting Grandmother and a loyal friend.  Eleanor remained close with her daughter and her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Her legacy will live on in her daughter, and grandchildren who have been enriched and blessed by her life.

Eleanor loved the Chesapeake Bay; she enjoyed boating on the Bay, with her husband Arthur and daughter Cathy.  After retiring Eleanor and her husband moved to Cape St. Claire on the Magothy river, where she and her family continued to enjoy the Bay for many years. She and her husband eventually left the Bay and purchased a home on Lake Manassas in Gainesville, VA, so they could be close to their daughter and her family.

Eleanor was an active member of the Virginia Oaks community where she co-founded the Seniors Association, and over the years organized countless events and outings for the group.  She was an avid reader, loved to travel with Arthur, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and participating in water aerobics. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, and for her ability to overcome adversity with dignity and strength.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the compassionate and excellent care given to Eleanor by the staff of Heritage Hall in Leesburg VA, over the past year and a half of her life.

Visitation with the family will be held at the Candle Light Funeral Home in Catonsville, MD on July 27th, 2019 at 1pm with a memorial service beginning at 3pm.  Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to join a dinner and reception, details to be provided at the Funeral Home.
