Cynthia Wells-Johnson Obituary

Cynthia Wells-Johnson, age 71, died peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Gilchrist Hospice Center of Baltimore after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Chillocothe, OH to Donald and Mary Jane Wells. From there her family moved to Elkhart, IN where Cynthia graduated from Elkhart High School in 1965. She pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Manchester College, later graduating from University of Northern Iowa. While at Manchester, she met and married David Johnson. Together they had two girls Heather and Stephanie. After a divorce, Cynthia put all of her energy into raising her two girls in Nevada, IA. She worked as a special education teacher at Central Elementary for more than 30 years where she left a legacy of students whose lives she touched. She passionately gave students the tools and confidence needed to be successful. She loved reading and keeping up with the latest in politics. She was a wonderful listener, always ready to give support, and able to put a positive spin on any situation. Cynthia is survived by her daughter Stephanie Bruning; son-in-law Gunnar Bruning; grandchildren Spencer and Soren Bruning; sisters Jennifer Randolph and Laura Bultemeier; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her daughter Heather Johnson. Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
